Asset Controller
The Resource Manager module is a flexible tool for the creation of resources in Intranet Suite. A resource can be anything: a car, meeting room, book, CD, anything at all. New resources are built on top of templates. A template acts as a base for the creation of new resources, so a book resource, for example, would be a list containing such fields as the author, ISBN number, technical level, includes a CD ROM etc. When you want to create a new book resource you simply highlight the required template and fill in the fields.
A resource in Intranet Suite inherits a few additional properties. You can choose to assign a manager to the resource who's responsibility is to oversee its allocation, use and maintenance. You can choose to allow the resource to be visible in Finder (as well as its description), and in addition you can allow the resource to be booked. Setting this option automatically creates a calendar for the resource which can be viewed by anyone- a user can then simply use the Calendar module to book the resource. The manager would then be notified through the System Messages module and they can approve or decline the booking request as they so choose.
Resource Manager also supports what are known as Grouped Resources. If you would imagine all of the components of a computer workstation as single resources; hard drives, printers, monitors etc. All of these separately created resources can be organised together as a single grouped resource and either assigned to user or made available for booking as a single entity.
Resource Manager is superficially simple and easy to use, but its power spreads well beyond its simplified interface.
